A matter of balance...

"E Pluribus Unum" - Out of Many, One.

That's what America is; that's what America stands for - the shared experience and adventure that has defined the American promise: a land of freedom and opportunity for all.

Behind these words is a powerful idea: that America starts right here at home: in our communities, in our schools and, of course, in our political process. As tumultuous as our politics might be from time to time, our democracy remains a shining light for the entire world. And the most important thing about democracy is to remember that it all begins... with you.

What "E Pluribus Unum" really means, in short, is that we're all in this together. It means that what happens on the other side of town often has a direct impact on your daily life - for better or worse. The challenge in self-government is to find the proper balance that helps us all to continue to move forward - without placing an undue burden on any segment of our community. This concept of balance, though at times difficult, has served us in the past, serves us now, and will ensure our prosperity as long as we remain dedicated to the idea of good government in the interest of "We, the People" - with the emphasis on "We."

Those of us who have been honored with the public trust here in Westchester have dedicated ourselves finding the right balance between three major objectives:

• Maximizing the efficiency of your government, while safeguarding essential services
• Providing sensible pathways for our residents to improve their lot, and acheive the "American Dream"
• Striving for long-term solutions that benefit Westchester residents not just now, but in future generations

Finding the right mix is a difficult and ever-changing challenge, and making your voice heard is the best way to ensure that your government - because it is your government - is responsive to you. After all, youre the boss - that's what democracy is all about!

My sincere hope is that this new website will prove to be a valuable tool, not just in adding your voice to the process, but also in finding out what other members of the community are thinking. It is my firm belief that if we all work together, there's nothing we can't accomplish.
